Project CBD shines a spotlight on the medical potential of cannabidiol

Project CBD is a non-profit educational service that promotes and publicizes research related to the medical uses of cannabidiol – CBD – a compound in cannabis, and other components of the cannabis plant.

Clinical and scientific studies have called attention to CBD’s potential as treatment for patients suffering from a wide variety of conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, epilepsy, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, antibiotic-resistant infections, and other neurological disorders. Project CBD’s tagline is “defending whole plant cannabis therapeutics,” calling attention to the importance of the combination of CBD and THC cannabinoids in therapeutic treatments. Some detractors of the industry equate medical cannabis with THC, the psychoactive compound responsible for the feeling of being “stoned,” and view medical marijuana as a “front for stoners.” Unlike THC, however, CBD produces much diminished psychoactivity and can even reduce the psychoactivity of THC. Consequently, CBD-rich cannabis does not produce a high or its associated symptoms of lethargy and dysphoria, making it an appealing treatment option for certain patients.

In addition to updating doctors and patients on developments in cannabinoid science and therapeutics through publications and lectures, Project CBD supports doctors’ and researchers’ efforts to collect, assess, and publish data to determine the efficacy of CBD (or its lack) in patient use. Other services include helping dispensaries and members identify top-quality sources of CBD-rich products, maintaining a state-by-state roster of dispensaries and collectives providing CBD-rich medicine, and reviewing and certifying CBD-rich products. Project CBD’s outreach includes responding to inquiries from all over the world, maintaining a community bulletin board, discussion forum, and free newsfeed.

We consider the work of Martin A. Lee, director of Project CBD, fundamental to the positive development of the medical cannabis industry. Constance Pure Botanical Extracts was among the first to isolate the CBD compound in a CBD-rich cannabis oil of high potency, sometimes referred to as Constance Oil. Project CBD has proven to be a reliable, scientifically based resource, and we have been delighted to be able to collaborate with and rely on it as a respected ally since our beginning.
