What is ISO Compliance & Why Are We Pursuing It?

For nearly a decade, we’ve been leading the cannabis medicinal market in standardized evidence-based practices in California. We started with implementing extensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and recently took the exciting plunge in working to make Constance Therapeutics ISO 9000 compliant.

So, what is ISO? ISO, or International Organization for Standardization, is an independent, non-governmental international organization that provides world-class specifications for products, services and systems. The ultimate goal of ISO is to ensure quality, safety and efficiency – three things that have long shaped our company and products.

ISO 9000 in particular details the standards for pharmaceutical companies. ISO 9000 is a set of international standards on quality management and quality assurance developed to help companies effectively document the quality system elements to be implemented to maintain an efficient quality system. They are not specific to any one industry and can be applied to organizations of any size. Since our whole-plant cannabis extracts are being integrated into traditional health care to provide physicians and patients with expanded treatment options, we feel it’s imperative to match our own best cultivation and extraction practices with those of ISO.

Why ISO? There are many benefits to adopting ISO standards beyond the obvious (achieving the highest-regarded internationally-held quality systems).

  1. Savings. Increasing qualities and efficiencies increases profitability.
  2. Value. US publicly-held companies traded on the NYSE that received registration under the ISO 9000 quality standard show greater financial performance.
  3. Scale. Expect acceleration of return on assets, resource allocation, productivity and sales.

Building a company that is standard and compliant at such a high level takes commitment, as well as capital and resource allocation. While the process is quite extensive, ISO shapes the market’s best practices. Our products are made in a lab specifically designed in compliance with traditional biotech, pharmaceutical and clinical herbalism practices. We only use raw material with known and controlled genetics, sourced from farmers within our collective that adhere to an approved growing methodology. Using a science based, tightly controlled and quantitatively defined extraction method, we are dedicated to providing consistent extracts of the highest quality. By taking our world-class brand to the highest level, we’re continuing our rich heritage of providing only the very best for patients who use our products.
