Storage

Store the extract away from light and heat. We advise keeping the extract in a cupboard or drawer at room temperature, away from excessive heat or cold. Do not allow the extract to reach temperatures of 102°F (this will not destroy the product but the quality of the extract may become compromised). Make sure to keep the extract away from children and pets.

Handling

Here is a step-by-step guide to dispensing the extract:

  1. Lightly shake before use.
  2. Remove childproof cap from glass bottle by pushing down and turning counterclockwise simultaneously.
  3. Insert the syringe tip fully into opening of the glass bottle. Note: There is no need to force the syringe deep into the opening. This may cause the plastic plug in the bottle to split and cause leakage. Instead, gently press just the narrow tip of the syringe into the plug so that it forms a seal between the syringe and the plastic plug.
  4. Turn bottle upside down with syringe inserted.
  5. Slowly retract then push the plunger to remove any air bubbles from syringe. Withdraw plunger to the desired dose. Refer to the dosing schedule below.
  6. Dispense the extract directly under the tongue into the mouth, and allow to rest under your tongue for up to 2 minutes before swallowing. You may take with food or drink, and it is advised not to take on an empty stomach.

Dosing Schedule

Start the cannabis extract when you have a few days to be with your pet as they will be experiencing the side effects of THC for the first time. Animals experience psychoactivity as stress, particularly at first. Use the markings on the side of the syringe as a guideline to help with measuring the extract. Our suggestion for dosing is to start small and go slow, but you should consult with your veterinarian on dosing.

Suggested Dosing Guide

Suggested dosing schedule for our cannabis extract diluted in salmon or sh oil. Dispense every 12 hours.

3000mg Bottle (30mL, 100mg/mL) OR 6000mg Bottle (60mL, 100mg/mL)

dosing-guide

The above guide is simply a recommendation. You may increase at a faster or slower rate based on your pet’s response to the extract and experience with cannabis in general or as advised by your pet’s veterinarian. We encourage you to find the optimal dose where you find the extract to be most effective and to then continue at that same level for ongoing use.

Side Effects

Your pet will most likely feel the side effects more strongly for a few days, and then slowly you will see your pet attenuate and get “used to” a dose. Once that happens, we recommend increasing the dose. Consult with your veterinarian if needed, regarding the same. If at any point, you feel like you have given too much extract, lower the dose slightly and continue on the the lower dose. An indicator that you may have given too much extract is nausea or urinating on themselves while sleeping. If this occurs, lower the dose by a quarter and persist. Again, be sure to consult with your pet’s veterinarian on any and all side effects of the Protocol.

Common side effects are excessive sleep, disorientation, and dizziness. If your pet experiences something that is out of the range of these common side effects, please consult with your veterinarian accordingly. We are not veterinarians.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can my pet take the extract at the same time as chemotherapy or radiation?

A: Oncologists have not reported contra-indications with common medications. Many of the past pet patient members who have used this Protocol have done so alongside these treatments. Constance Therapeutics are not veterinarians, so please consult your veterinarian for guidance regarding this question.

Q: Can my pet stop taking other medications if the cannabis extract helps them?

A: We do not recommend doing anything without first consulting your veterinarian in regards to their other medications. Constance Therapeutics are not veterinarians, so please consult your veterinarian for guidance regarding this question.

Q: Can my pet take a day off from the Protocol?

A: Unless your veterinarian advises you to abstain from the Protocol, we do NOT recommend taking a single day off from the Protocol. If your pet is struggling with a dose and needs to stop for whatever reason, it is better to slightly lower a dose than to completely take a day off, or to delay your increased dose for a short period. The purpose of the Protocol is to continue to build up and maintain their tolerance. Again, be sure to consult your veterinarian accordingly.

Next Steps

The best way to monitor the results of this Protocol is to test the progress of your pet’s cancer or symptom state before nearing the end of your supply. We ask that you contact us and consult with us, as well as consulting with your pet’s veterinarian, before stopping the Protocol. If you choose to stop the extract, it is best to wean off over the course of a week.

Based on the status of your pet’s disease, we will recommend a next step about which you should consult with your veterinarian. This can be either: trying a different type of extract, continuing at a high dose, or moving to a maintenance dose. Please consult with us if you have questions while using this Protocol.
